Carl August Anderson (1842-1920) Fredrika Carlsson (1842-1910)

Carl August was the second son of Anders Petterson and Ingelov Anderson.  He was born on August 16, 1842 in Hoffgarden, Nattraby, Blekinge, Sweden.  He was married on May 2, 1869 in Augerum, Blekinge, Sweden to Fredrika Carlsson who was born March 25, 1842 to Carl Jonsson and Maria Petterson in Kabbetorp, Soderakra, Kalmar, Sweden.

They were both baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1873, Carl on January 14 and Fredrika on March 25.  Carl’s father had been baptized in 1871 as was his sister Emile Charlotte.  His sister Hilda was baptized in 1874.  None of the other siblings were converted to the Church at this time.

Carl August Anderson came to America earlier than his father and only with his daughter Annette and was living in Murray.  He had sent money for his wife Fredrika, and his children, Alfreda, Martin, Ernest and baby Jacob to come on the S.S. Nevada along with his father Anders Peterson and sister Hilda.   Carl and Fredrika had had another daughter born in 1879 who lived just a few days.

When they were crossing the ocean, a terrible storm came up which lasted three days. No one was allowed on deck. There was much sea sickness. People had to hang onto ropes and straps to keep from being thrown out of bed. There was a great clatter among the dishes, and banging as the trunks and baggage were thrown back and forth in the compartment where they were stored but they arrived safely and Fredrika and her children went to their new home in Murray where Carl and daughter Annette waited for them.

Anders Peterson and his daughter Hilda went to live in the Andrew Olsen home in Beaver.  Anders' daughter Emile Charlotte had come across earlier to meet and later marry Andrew Olsen, who was the brother of John Olsen, one of the missionaries instrumental in converting the Peterson family.

The Carl August Anderson family lived for some time in Taylorsville where they had a daughter Jennie who died at the age of 7.  Later they moved to Beaver County, Utah, where the sons, Martin and Ernest had found employment on a ranch owned by the Williams Brothers Ezra T, Joseph, and Parley.  After crop failure and drought they moved to northern Utah in 1897 and then eventually settled in the Moreland, Idaho area.  Carl and Fredrika are pictured with their daughter Annette at one of the homes they built.

Carl’s youngest sister Hilda married Ezra T Williams in the St George Temple on September 4, 1885.

Carl and his wife Fredrika were sealed together in the Manti Temple on 25th of April, 1889.

Carl’s daughter Alfreda (just 11 years younger than Hilda) was courted by Parley Williams. Parley’s brother Joseph was dating Mary Jane Lillywhite, who was a young resident of Beaver. The brothers Joseph and Parley decided to exchange partners, so Joseph started courting Freda, whom he later married in the St. George Temple on September 9, 1891.

Mary Jane did not marry Parley but became acquainted with Freda’s handsome brother, Martin Anderson, to whom she was married on September 2, 1892 in the Manti Temple.   Martin and Mary Jane are the parents of my father Carl Ferrell and are my grandparents.

Carl’s son Ernest was married in the Salt Lake Temple to Millie May Neel on Oct 9, 1891.

His daughter Annette was married to Warren Parks Lindsay, a widower with several children, on Oct 4, 1906.

In the picture of the three ladies that is Mary Jane Lillywhite Anderson on the left with the daughters of Carl, Annette and Alfreda.

His son Jacob lived until 1966 but never married.  He died in California but was buried in Moreland, Idaho.

Fredrika died on July 16, 1910 in Moreland, Bingham, Idaho and Carl died on April 26, 1920 in Moreland, Bingham, Idaho.

Alfreda also died in Moreland, Bingham, Idaho on April 9, 1913 and the son Ernest was buried in Moreland after dying in Salt Lake City on June 5, 1962.

The stories of all these family members are in Family Search in the their individual Memories Section of the Family Tree.

The picture of the old couple are the  parents of Fredrika (Carlsdotter), wife of Carl August.  Their names are Carl Jonsson and Maria Pettersdotter.

When Carl Jonsson was four years old his mother Caisa gave birth to triplets on Nov 17, 1818 but his mother died just 10 days later.  Then the triplets died--Ingrid on Dec 7, Maria on Dec 10 and Botild in  January.
